During season 6 of The Voice, Sam Behymer captured the attention of both Adam Levine and Usher with her unique style. Although she is a native of Texas, her departure from the typical vocal style of American pop stars had the two judges vying for her attentions. Reminiscent of Bjork and Dolores O'Riordan of The Cranberries, her individuality made her a strong competitor.

Although she eventually lost in a battle round against Christina Grimmie, who eventually took overall 3rd place in the season, she found a fan base. She now goes on tour singing both original songs and covers. Her version of Shakira's "Empire" inspired some fans to claim she is better than the original.
