Plenty of people know what it's like to be in a roller-coaster kind of relationship, but very few of them have all of its twists and turns immortalized on video. Yet that's exactly what Casey Neistat showcases in this short film, inspired by his now-wife, Candice Pool. Uploaded on Aug. 28, 2014, the five-minute-long clip depicts an unconventional love story for the ages.

Neistat, based in New York City, has built a career creating movies on YouTube. In this video, he uses the platform to lead viewers through eight crazy years with Pool, a jewelry designer — even revealing intimate footage from their very first date in 2005. While their relationship was on and off over the course of many years, the two always returned to each other and finally married in 2013. The couple has since had a daughter, Francine, who's a frequent guest star in Neistat's current videos.

Perhaps the most endearing parts of this short film are Neistat's honest admissions of fault and failure during the ups and downs he's endured with Pool. And more emotional still is when Neistat thanks her for being so good to his teenage son from a previous relationship, Owen. Despite their starts, stops and bad haircuts, Neistat and Pool really do appear to have a modern love story for the ages.

In today's era of smartphones and "vlogging," there's nothing unusual about seeing people broadcast large portions of their lives on the Internet. Yet Neistat's knack for so diligently filming his everyday moments, for so many years, makes this intimate glimpse into his relationship with Pool all the more touching.
