Truly Magnificent Aerial Footage Of Oahu's North Shore
November 4, 2016
There's no denying that Oahu's North Shore is breathtakingly gorgeous. However, this drone footage – capturing sweeping aerial shots of its beautiful beaches, coral reefs and world-famous surf – is truly something else. How cool to see this epic landscape, as well as the adventurous people who live there, from a bird's-eye angle.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, Oahu is the third-largest island in the Hawaiian Islands chain, and its North Shore is known in particular for iconic big-wave surf spots like Waimea Bay and the Banzai Pipeline. This 7-mile stretch of beaches reaps the benefits of winter swells in the North Pacific, which send large waves to the unobstructed coastline. However, locations like Pipeline are notoriously dangerous for surfers given the razor-sharp coral reefs lying just below the surface of the breaking waves.
Amidst all this natural beauty, Oahu’s North Shore hosts only one commercial hotel, the Turtle Bay Resort, which is actively involved in the region’s conservation effort. According to "Green Lodging News," the resort has secured agreements with the state of Hawaii to preserve over a thousand acres of untouched land on the North Shore. Turtle Bay has also scaled down its own commercial plans to expand in further efforts to conserve this undeniably special place on the island.
