Undertaker faints when 'dead' woman wakes
A German funeral director was going about his day-to-day duties when he heard a rumbling from the refrigerated room and got the shock of a lifetime. There, a 92-year-old woman who had been pronounced dead by doctors just hours before, awoke and began to scream, reports The Independent.
The 92-year-old was found in her retirement home not breathing and without a pulse. A doctor was then called to the scene and the unnamed woman was pronounced dead. Lother Burger, head of the retirement home, told the Daily Mail: "This is terrible and inexplicable."
"We are being devoured by the press," Burger continued, "we are being pilloried."
After waking in the funeral home — and the undertaker recovering after fainting — the 92-year-old was then ushered back to the hospital. The Mail claims that she died just two days later as a result of heart disease, though it is said to be unrelated to the bizarre, aforementioned incident.
An investigation was then initiated to discover how the 53-year-old doctor, whose name was not released to the public, declared the elderly woman dead when she was in fact alive. According to The Independent, the doctor was charged with negligent bodily harm in July of 2015, though no updates on the case seem to have been made public.
As for the funeral director, it's hard to say if he'll ever fully recover from the scare of a lifetime.
