Family realizes adopted daughter has sister, raises funds to reunite the pair
January 9, 2017
A mom is using crowdfunding to raise enough money to reunite her adoptive daughter with her biological sister. The mom, Lisa, is the matriarch of the Lumpkins family. She and her husband have six kids--four adopted and two biological. One of Lumpkins' daughter's, Aubrey, has a sister who lives in an orphanage in China.
Lisa discovered that Aubrey had a sister when she was looking at pictures on Facebook, according to her GoFundMe page. “While on Facebook I stumbled across the photo of a beautiful little girl. I noticed right away that she looked just like my adopted daughter and is from the same orphanage as our Aubrey. After lots of prayers and two weeks of pacing the floors, finally a DNA test confirmed my suspicion.”
The Lumpkins family is desperately trying to raise $35,000 to adopt Avery and bring her to the United States before she turns 14. When she turns 14, Avery will no longer be eligible for adoption. In addition to bringing her to the U.S. to be with her sister, the Lumpkins family wants to adopt Avery because she has Cerebral Palsy like Aubrey, and they fear that she will end up living on the streets of China.
Lisa Lumpkins said on her YouCaring page that the family turned to crowdfunding because they don’t have the additional income to do so. “We just got home a year ago with our last adoption and we basically still owe for the entire thing," she wrote. "We are a one income family supporting eight people.” The money raised will go towards expedited adoption fees and travel to and from China.
