Husband and wife say 'goodbye' while clinging to life in the ICU
March 13, 2017
A photo of a hospitalized man saying his final goodbyes to his wife who was on life support is going viral. It’s a moving story. Jim Mininni and his wife Cindy had been inseparable since they met. When they got married nothing could keep them apart—not even the threat of death. When Jim was admitted to intensive care on April 28, the next day Cindy had a heart attack and ended up on life support, the Tech Times reported.
At first, Jim and Cindy were at different hospitals, but Cindy was transported to the same hospital as Jim on May 3. "We told him that mom was now here," Chris said to People. "He started freaking out. But when we told him he wasn't going to make it he got out a pen and paper and tried to write because he wasn't able to speak."
When Jim finally scribbled "mom," everyone knew exactly what Jim wanted—Cindy. Jim wanted to see her because he knew he didn’t have a lot of time left-- While in the ICU Jim had pulled out his own breathing tube during a bad dream and he had a do-not-resuscitate order in place, so doctors couldn’t put him back on life support, People reported.
The hospital granted Jim’s request and wheeled him into Cindy’s room. Cindy, who was still on life support, was sedated.
While in Cindy’s room, Jim got to say goodbye. He held her hand and cried. Chris was able to capture a picture of the moment. Hours later Jim was dead.
Chris said he took the photo for his mom. "I wanted to show my mom when she got out of the hospital that dad was [with] her almost until his very last breath," he said to People. "She wasn't able to witness the power and love he was showing her."
Chis shared the photo of the tender moment between his parents on Reddit and Imgur, where it went viral because people were moved by the story.
