According to ABC News, in Homestead, Pennsylvania, a couple entered an Eat N' Park diner for a meal last Friday, just after the Dallas shooting. When they saw a group of police officers also dining, the couple, specificially the man, expressed discomfort and requested new seating. To their surprise, they were greeted by a very unexpected response from the officers nearby, reported WTAE.

Police officer Chuck Thomas told WTAE, "I looked over and said, 'It's okay sir. You won't have to worry about it, we won't hurt you."

Thomas went a step further. He proved what he meant by responding to the couple: "Sir, your check was paid for by the police officers that you didn't want to sit next to. Thank you for your support. I left a $10.00 tip too."

Why did Thomas respond in this way?  "Essentially the whole goal of it was to let him know that we’re not here to hurt you, we’re not here for that. We’re here for you. We work for the public. And we just want to better the relationship between the community and the police."
