Jonas and Christy remember the day vividly. It was a routine check-up and yet the ultrasound technician was eerily quiet. "She didn't say a word until she said, 'You're going to have to see the doctor,'" Christy recounts. That's when the young couple discovered their unborn son had fetal hydrops, meaning there was fluid around his abdomen. It was a serious issue, and the couple was informed they would have to see a specialist.

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, babies born with fetal hydrops often don't survive long after birth. Jonas and Christy were prepared for the worst. They poured over the ultrasound pictures and imagined all the ways it might play out. But it's unlikely that they ever imagined it would take a turn like this.

At a check-up with a new ultrasound technician, Jonas and Christy got news that would forever change their life. The technician was only looking for a heartbeat, but she soon discovered that the fluid around the couple's unborn son's head, heart, and abdomen had vanished. As Jonas recalled, the doctor's first words about the baby's miraculous turnaround were 'divine intervention.'
