Conner and Cayden are 'SportsKids of the Year'
"When I see him smiling and laughing, that means he is having a good time." Those are the words of Conner Long, a 9-year-old who is wise beyond his years. He's speaking about his 7-year-old brother Cayden, who was born with cerebral palsy. Because of the congenital disorder, Cayden was unable to do most of the things that young children do, like playing sports and going to the playground.
But Conner didn't want his brother to be left out, so he came up with an activity that the two of them could do together. They began competing in triathlons, with Conner pulling Cayden along in a trailer. When it came to the swimming portion, Conner would pull Cayden in a raft. That was Cayden's favorite part, he told Sports Illustrated Kids.
In 2012, the brothers were named the Sports Illustrated Kids SportsKids of the Year. At the ceremony, NBA star LeBron James addressed the crowd and was visibly moved by the young boys' spirit. "I'm lost for words," he remarked.
