Meet Bitty - an adorable mixed-breed dog that had to live in the worst situation imaginable living alone in a sewer. When the rescuers discovered Bitty, they knew something had to be done. Bitty was reluctant at first, but eventually the rescuers were able to nurse the animal back to health.

Unfortunately, Bitty's story is not unique. While an exact number is unknown, officials estimate that there are over 70 million stray dogs throughout the United States alone.  Organizations such as Hope For Paws are doing their part to alleviate the situation, but there's still more work to be done. It's still recommended that every pet owner spay or neuter their cats and dogs to stem the tide of pet overpopulation. Failure to do so will only lead to more tragic stories like Bitty's.
