Sherry Blackledge and her husband Craig always wanted to have children, but could not have any of their own. The couple adopted a baby boy and lived happily as parents for 11 years, but then one evening something happened to Sherry that would change her life.
While working a shift in the maternity ward in Laurel, Mississippi, Blackledge cared for a pregnant woman who could not keep her child and had nowhere else to turn. After the two had talked about Blackledge's love for her adopted son, the new mother asked Blackledge if she wanted to take in the newborn baby, according to At the time of the adoption of baby Brooke, there were so many emotions flying around in her head, but the strongest of all was love.

When Brooke was a year and a half old, Blackledge wrote a letter to her baby daughter telling her how much she loved her. Blackledge held onto that letter for 20 years, hoping to give it to Brooke to read on her wedding day. Blackledge brought the letter to a printmaker, who printed a copy on a piece of her own wedding dress. Blackledge wanted to make sure her daughter knew how loved she was, but if this mother's kind gesture is similar to how she raised Brooke, then Brooke must know how loved she truly is.

Here is the letter that Sherry wrote to Brooke:

December 15, 1994

Our Dear Little Baby Brooke,

As I write this you are sleeping soundly in your baby bed. You are 18 months old. We just want you to know how very much love and happiness you have brought to us. You have made us a truly great family. A little precious baby girl to me and Daddy and a baby sister to Brian.

Before me and Daddy were married we always said we wanted a little boy and a little girl. When we were dating, we said if we had a little girl she would be a little Brooke. You are our little Baby Brooke.

Brooke, we just want you to know that you are very special to us and that God picked you extra special and he sent you to Mommy, Daddy and Brian.

We love you

Mommy and Daddy
