Pediatrician pulls out a 2-inch feather from baby's neck
September 5, 2017
When doctors first treated 7-month-old Mya Whittington, she was crying and touching an area under her left ear, so they assumed she had a swollen gland and sent her home with antibiotics. But when she didn't get better and wound up back at the Hutchinson, Kan., hospital, doctors took a closer look and made a shocking discovery, according to ABC News. Advertisement
Everybody in the room was stunned. How did it happen? "Our doctor says we'll probably never really know," Aaron told ABC News. "But her best guess is that she either inhaled it or tried swallowing it and it got lodged in the throat somewhere, and the body, just being crazy, just started to reject it and force it out the side of her neck."
Mya was fine. Her parents say she didn't require surgery or any other kind of medical procedure. Doctors were confident her body would continue to heal itself.
Aaron Whittington said people all over the world were fascinated by the 2012 video. "We've gotten stories in Kenya, India, the U.K. It's really crazy," he said in the report. You can see a video of the baby with the feather still lodged inside her neck in the video below.
