A Paralyzed Dog Is Flown From Thailand To Canada To Be Rescued

Sometimes we come across something so heartbreaking that we need to step in. When Meagan Peaman met Leo on the beach, she knew she couldn't just leave him. Even though she didn't have the funds or the means to help him, she decided to take charge.

By reaching out to social media networks and launching a crowd funding campaign, she was able to help Leo get the care he needed. This is a beautiful example of strangers coming together to do good. One girl's determination and the generosity of hundreds have given Leo a new chance for life.

Meagan Peaman was on the beach in Thailand when she saw this poor puppy dragging his paralyzed legs behind him.

Despite his injuries, he was friendly and happily approached them.

She was horrified to learn that Leo, as he came to be called, was not a stray. After a motorcycle accident rendered Leo paralyzed, his "owner" simply ignored the injuries because Leo seemed to feel no pain.

Even if he didn't feel it, constantly dragging his legs caused his skin to be worn around his knees. Not surprisingly, he was also covered in ticks and in need of a lot of medical attention.

Meagan decided she needed to take matters into her own hands. She took Leo from his owner and to the vet to have his injuries examined. He had a broken back, infections on his wounds, and needed a catheter to urinate. In all, his medical costs were in the thousands.

Meagan could not afford all the treatment Leo needed, so she reached out via GoFundMe, and thankfully was able to raise the money through donations. After months in recovery and treatment, Leo was free to go.

Unfortunately, Meagan knew that finding a home for Leo in Thailand would be nearly impossible. Although she couldn't care for him herself, she decided to take him back home to Canada to continue her mission.

Meagan quickly began the task of finding Leo a foster home. Using Facebook and other social media networks, she was able to find someone who was able to take him in and care for him. He adjusted quickly to his new home, but he still needed a better way to move around than dragging his hind legs.

With Leo's story making the rounds, the people at K9 Carts - The Pet Mobility Rehab Center - also got word, and they generously donated a dog wheelchair for Leo.

Leo is currently living happily with his new Foster mom, Jamie Marilyn Smith. They are doing well together, and he is quickly adjusting to his new life.
