The fight for same-sex marriage had picked up momentum in recent years, but no victory was bigger than the one from last summer. In June of 2015, the Supreme Court of the United States declared that same-sex marriage was constitutional in all 50 states. Prior to this ruling, only 37 states had legalized gay marriage, according to Governing Data.

Though the Supreme Court's ruling was groundbreaking and would change many lives, the fight for acceptance of same-sex marriage rolls on. People across the country (and the globe, for that matter) struggle to come to terms with same-sex relationships. A couple years ago, FCKH8 shared a photo of a father's letter to his daughter that shortly went viral. The letter is in regards to his grandson, who had just come out to his mother. As a result, his mother kicked him out, but grandpa wasn't too happy about this.

"I'm disappointed in you as a daughter," the letter begins. And ends, "If you find your heart, give us a call."
