Some people may argue that animals do not show empathy, but this viral video taken at The National Zoological Park should prove the naysayers wrong. In the clip posted by Ariel Myren, a young girl runs back and forth alongside the sea lion exhibit while one of the sea lions echoes her movements. It would almost appear as if the two were playing some sort of game.

While turning, the toddler missteps and falls to the ground. On a dime, the sea lion stops as well, hovering in the same spot as it looks on at the little girl. Bystanders immediately noticed the sea lion's concerned behavior. "Look, he's worried about her," one museum-goer remarks. The adorable clip went viral and was featured on a number of different news outlets. It's been viewed on YouTube over 16 million times.
